Man in wheelchair paintingIt seems very appropriate that during National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month ( #DDAM2022 ) Social Services Specialists are honored. Most people with developmental disabilities are beneficiaries of the services provided by social workers globally.

The Social Services Department at St. Louis Center is staffed by a team of qualified Social Workers and support staff who are involved with the residents in many areas of their lives, from admission to discharge. The department provides ongoing support, enhancing residents’ quality of life, and provides assistance with community connections.

They work to ensure that SLC is the right placement for each individual, that his or her personal care plan is followed, and that regular gains and progress are made.

The residents in turn develop relationships with their social services specialist and enjoy the time they spend together. This staff of people truly go the extra mile to ensure that SLC residents can live their best life.

This year for World Social Work Day, March 15th, the staff and supervisors of the Day Program planned a bit of a surprise for the SLC Social Services Department. Each member of the department received handmade cards and hand painted tiles from the residents.
