A Dough-lightful Event

On Tuesday, July 9th, six of our residents traveled down to Napoleon, Ohio to check out Soaring Arts Studio for their Donuts and Discussion event! Accompanied by Haylie Moran, Michelle Tyler, and their very own pottery teacher, Eli Zemper, the residents gathered and headed south with excited anticipation.

The Ohio art studio’s main mission is to “Inspire Creative Expression” in artists of all abilities. Due to their artistic experience taking classes with Eli through the Curiouser Clay program, our residents seamlessly fit right in!

Upon Arrival…

Soaring Arts Studio’s workers explained that the main goal of the “Donuts and Discussions” project was to explore and celebrate everyone’s unique gifts and perspectives. Just as every donut is made differently, so are each of us! All participants get to eat a donut, glaze a previously sculpted donut, and form their own clay donut for someone else to glaze later.

Each pottery pastry and donut wall is a collaboration of many unique people working together. Every art piece is sprinkled, molded, and painted with love. This collaboration reflects the mission of the studio to provide a safe but exciting place where exceptional people can create.

“Soaring Arts Studio is an inclusive art studio for people of all abilities to come to and make all sorts of art.”

A Hole Lot of Fun!

Each completed donut will be used in small art installations and placed all around the state of Ohio. The group enjoyed checking out the fun studio, eating some real donuts, and painting the ceramic ones! The St. Louis Center team expressed their hope to collaborate with Soaring Arts Studio more in the future. They felt very welcomed and happy to be putting their newly learned pottery skills to work!

If you’re interested in learning more about the Soaring Arts Studio check out their website for information about their artists, events, classed, and more! Additionally, help support the Curiouser Clay program as the residents explore their artistic talents!
