Each year, the residents of St. Louis Center eagerly look forward to participating in the Tim Tebow Foundation’s global celebration, Night to Shine. This prom-like event for people with special needs, ages 14 and older, is celebrated in 74 countries at 975 churches around the world. Locally, it is hosted by 2|42 Community Church in Ann Arbor.
Members of the St. Louis Center Social Services team, program staff, and even the Development Office take an active role in helping residents prepare for their special night. The ladies enjoy having their hair styled, makeup applied, and choosing the perfect dress, while the gentlemen pick out sharp suits and ties that help them shine just as brightly.
After the entire campus gathers in the chapel to pray the Rosary, everyone heads to Ann Arbor for their Night to Shine celebration. Upon arrival, friendly volunteers greet each guest with a boutonniere or corsage. Just before walking the red carpet into the party, every resident is crowned, making each person feel like royalty.
As they enter the event space, each guest is announced by name and welcomed with cheers before heading inside for dinner and dancing. There is plenty of time to explore the gifts in their goody bags, reconnect with friends, and take in the excitement of the evening. Once dinner is served, the real celebration begins—and the dancing continues right up to the final song.
