Celebrating Diversity

With the help of generous grants from the Chelsea Community Foundation and St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, St. Louis Center has been able to host a number of diversity education events for the residents, staff, and community members. These events mean a great deal for our community as it allows our residents to learn about new cultures and participate in new activities.

Reading the Signs

Recently we offered an American Sign Language (ASL) beginners class during our All-Staff Day. The ASL class was a great way for staff, residents, and community members to learn how to better communicate with individuals who are deaf or experiencing hearing loss, including many of our own residents. Both of the classes offered were completely filled with eager learners. Many of our own staff members were excited to try out their new communication skills with our residents. This opportunity was a great way off fostering community and better communication.

Moving with Purpose

The Introduction to Tai Chi class held at the Chelsea Wellness Center was a great way for residents and others to learn a new meditative form of exercise. The residents and community members enjoyed the class from the comfort and accessibility of their seats as they learned more about the ancient Chinese martial art. Both of these activities nurtured diversity and community integration.

We are so thankful for these amazing opportunities to learn and grow together. We know that the more we connect and understand each other, the more we are able to properly love our neighbor. We hope you will join us as we continue to explore and learn about diverse topics and activities.
