St. Louis Center Residents Dazzle the Stage
Applause, laughter, and joyful energy filled the air as residents of St. Louis Center lit up the stage in a heartwarming talent showcase made possible by Open Spot Theatre, a theatre program dedicated to people of all abilities. After weeks of lively, confidence-building classes, performers stepped forward, ready to shine… and shine they did.
Let Your True Colors Shine
The show opened with a powerful group performance of True Colors by Cyndi Lauper. Sung by everyone together, the uplifting anthem set the tone for the entire event – a celebration of authenticity, courage, and community. Voices blended, smiles beamed, and the audience responded with enthusiastic cheers.
Brad, Lee B., Kyle, Brian, and Kevin followed with the infectious groove of Backstreet Bossa Nova, bringing swagger, rhythm, and plenty of personality to the stage.
The energy soared when Lisa R., Jacqui P., Darah, Emely, Kristin, Lisa S., and Jacqui L. dazzled the crowd with a spirited dance to Dancing Queen by ABBA. Their joyful performance transformed the room into a full-blown disco celebration.
Every Performance, A Moment to Shine
Not every act relied on music alone. Jacqui P. had the audience roaring with laughter during a lively set of classic “Dad jokes,” proving that comedy can steal the spotlight just as easily as song and dance.
Emely delivered a heartfelt performance of Mama’s Song, filling the room with warmth and emotion. Lanard then electrified the stage with a dynamic dance to Billie Jean by Michael Jackson – complete with signature moves that drew cheers from every corner.
Nostalgia swept through the audience when David, Lee C., Brian, and Charlie performed the beloved Barney Theme Song, followed by Brian and Charlie teaming up again for the lively The Flintstones Theme. Smiles spread instantly as familiar tunes sparked fond childhood memories.
A tender moment arrived when Jerome accompanied himself on keyboard while singing Moon River, captivating listeners with a gentle, heartfelt delivery.
Jacqui L. moved the audience with a powerful rendition of Waving Through a Window, conveying both vulnerability and strength through song. Bradley showcased his keyboard skills with a playful performance of the Little Einsteins Theme, delighting the crowd with familiar melodies.
Together in the Spotlight
The spirit of friendship took center stage when Lisa R., Jacqui P., Sarah, Cathy, Emely, Kristin, Lisa S., and Jacqui L. performed the iconic Thank You for Being a Friend – a perfect tribute to the bonds that make the community at St. Louis Center so special.
Earlier in the program, Sarah also charmed the audience with a sweet recorder performance of Edelweiss, adding a gentle, classical touch to the diverse lineup.
Finally, the entire cast returned to the stage for a high-energy grand finale: Shake a Tail Feather. With everyone singing, dancing, and celebrating together, the closing number brought the audience to its feet in a joyful standing ovation.
A Variety Show That Had It All
Throughout the showcase, one truth shone brightly: these performers weren’t just entertaining, they were sharing their hearts. Open Spot Theatre’s classes help residents discover talents, build confidence, and express themselves in new ways, but the real magic happens when they realize how much joy they can bring to others.
By the final bow, the room glowed with pride, connection, and pure happiness. The residents of St. Louis Center didn’t just put on a show – they reminded everyone that talent has no limits, courage deserves a spotlight, and when given the chance, true colors shine brilliantly for all to see.
