St. Louis Center is home to 55 full-time residents. It takes a large family of staff and volunteers to provide them with personalized, compassionate care. To make sure that a family atmosphere thrives, fun and creative activities abound.
On Wednesday, February 26th, the residents and staff at St. Louis Center were challenged to pick the best chili. Staff members and some residents prepared their favorite chili recipes, hoping to win the “St. Louis Center Choice Award”. Each person could sample any of the 10 different entries. The cups displayed the number corresponding to the pot it came from so that they could easily vote for their favorite chili. The kitchen staff also provided tortilla chips and a side salad to balance the meal.
The lunchtime cookoff was a great time for all the residents and staff members that got a taste of the many different recipes. Few things bring us together like a hot meal.
After chili was enjoyed and the votes submitted, Jacqui (pictured above) counted the votes for best chili to name recipe #5 cooked by Nikki Vaughn as the winner! Each chef involved took note of their favorites flavors, thinking about how they might incorporate them into their own recipes for next time. It will be fun to see what the next cook-off challenge will have.
St. Louis Center’s mission is to care for and support the residents and staff alike. It is through special community-building activities like these that allow us to bond with each other. When staff and residents feel more connected, we are able to better serve those in need.
