Stories that Inspire – EMPOWER!
Teamwork makes the dream work.
Lee Chambers has lived at St. Louis Center for 24 years. The Center has been truly blessed by his presence as he has grown into the man he is today.
One of the Center’s main goals is to encourage our residents to live their fullest lives. Part of that mission is to help them pursue the ability to contribute to society and the community in a sustainable way. One of the ways our residents can do this is by working according to their ability. Lee has worked at Polly’s and Ugly Dog Distillery, but his favorite role is hands down On-Field Hydration Coach for the Chelsea High School varsity football team. Football season is one of the highlights of Lee’s year. Because of that excitement and purpose that comes around during the fall season, St. Louis Center staff members have reported that Lee is his most joyful self when he gets to work with the team. He is more responsible with his duties around the Center, and he is even nicer to the rest of the residents. The motivation that this experience provides is life-changing for Lee. Lisa said, “It gives him confidence.”
“Always persevere, always have a great perspective, and always have a great purpose in your life.” – Russell Wilson
A Part of the Team
Because of Lee’s commitment and excitement towards this opportunity, the players and coaches have gotten to know him well. One of the players on the team even said, “The team loves Lee. He always has great energy that he brings to every practice.”

Help cover the cost of benevolent care for residents like Lee.
Many of the residents at the center, rely on your help to provide the Benevolent Care that is needed to help him maintain his community-oriented life.
We use the term Benevolent Care often here at St. Louis Center, but what does that mean? The Center receives funding from residents (through social security), their families and/or state and federal sources. However, the cost of care exceeds those reimbursements by $3,000 to $5,000 a month per resident, depending on their level of need. St. Louis Center must raise Benevolent Care funds to cover that gap. Those funds provide for direct care workers who provide for residents’ daily needs, shelter, clothing, food, and things like toiletries and supplies.
Benevolent Care donations are tax deductible and help St. Louis Center provide a dynamic and engaged life for its 55 residents each day. You can learn more about Benevolent Care at St. Louis Center here.
