Provide the gift of
Benevolent Care

The Bosatta Society is named in honor of Blessed Clare Bosatta, one of the first disciples of St. Louis Guanella, who knew and loved her for her ceaseless good works, generosity, and tireless devotion to caring for the less fortunate.

Who is Blessed Clare Bosatta?

Dina Bosatta was born the last of eleven children on May 27, 1858, in Como, Italy, to Alexander Bosatta, a silk manufacturer, and Rosa Mazzocchi. Alexander died when Dina was just three years old, leaving Rosa to care for all of her children alone.  At the age of 13, young Dina entered a convent with her sister Marcellina and eventually was introduced to the hospice of the Sacred Heart. It was here, now as Sister Clare, that she worked at a charity hospice serving neglected elderly and youth in their last days. She was introduced to Fr. Louis Guanella in 1881 when he became the administrator of the institute. By 1884 the region was gripped in a period of political unrest and plagued by a cholera epidemic. Sister Clare believed deeply in the Guanellian mission to help the less fortunate and quickly offered to go and aid the sick. She became ill in Como in 1886, one of the first victims of tuberculosis spreading through Italy.  On April 20, 1887, her earthly life came to an end. She co-founded the Daughters of Saint Mary of Providence with her sister to fulfill this mission,

“She was the first to rise, the first at prayer, the first to work, and the first to take on the service of supervision and charity.”  ~St. Louis Guanella, “A Gift of Youth: The Life of Blessed Clare Bosatta”
