SUMMARY:2025 Paesano Dinner
DESCRIPTION:Let’s honor St. Louis Center’s Fr. Franklin Michael!\n \nPlease join us in our annual tradition of gathering at Paesano for an evening of friends\, fine food\, and fellowship for St. Louis Center. \nFr. Franklin\, a member of the Servants of Charity\, is a uniquely qualified Assistant CEO. Fr. Franklin arrived at St. Louis Center in September 2016. He soon began studies to earn a Masters of Social Work. He became Assistant CEO of St. Louis Center in December 2023. Originally from India\, he is known for his playful attitude. \n“Be a running stream” is his priestly motto\, chosen from the book of the prophet Ezekiel 47:1-12. These verses tell about how the water running down from the altar does wonders in the world. Water never stops running and producing fruit and refreshment for the people. Fr. Franklin is a stream of God’s love flowing to all he encounters. \nWhen: June 22\, 2025\nWhere: Paesano Restaurant & Wine Bar\n3411 Washtenaw Avenue\nAnn Arbor\, MI 48104\nTime: 6:00 PM\nTickets: $125/person \nMike & Bridget Roddy \nPaesano  former owners Mike & Bridget Roddy\, at right\, are close friends of St. Louis Center. Each year since 2008 they thoughtfully reserved a private dining room in their popular Ann Arbor restaurant for a five-course meal to pay special tribute to honor friends and supporters of the Center. \nWe thank the new proprietors\, Rick\, Andrew\, and Elissa\, for creating new friendships and continuing the tradition. \nThe dinner is limited to 50 guests and sells out quickly. \n\n \n\n\nGet Your Seats Here!\n\n \n \n\nSee Snaps from the past: 2018 | 2017 | 2016 | 2015 | 2014

SUMMARY:1000 Flowers Could Bloom - Artists' Reception
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Our Community’s Creativity: Join Us for the “1000 Flowers Could Bloom” Art Reception! \n \nCuriouser Clay is excited to announce the culmination of our latest community art project\, “1000 Flowers Could Bloom\,” with a special art reception on May 17\, 2025. \nLaunched in January\, the “1000 Flowers Could Bloom” project brought together over 80 talented creators through four engaging workshops at the St. Louis Center. Participants crafted unique clay flowers that symbolize various aspects of their identities\, showcasing the rich diversity and creativity within our community. \nThe artistic creations – featuring clay flowers from participants at both the St. Louis Center and Soaring Arts Studio – will be on display for attendees to admire. To enhance the experience\, the flowers created by the artists at St. Louis Center will be accompanied by a QR code\, allowing viewers to listen to the artists share their personal stories behind their creations. \n \nThanks to a generous grant from the Chelsea Community Foundation\, the residents of St. Louis Center have been on a year-long journey of cultural discovery. This event will be the capstone of the cultural awareness program. \nJoin us for light refreshments\, inspiring art\, and a celebration of community and identity on May 17th. We look forward to seeing you there! \nFlier to Download and Share

SUMMARY:1000 Flowers Could Bloom - 2
DESCRIPTION:All plants will flower if provided the right conditions – soil with nutrients\, sunlight\, water\, pollination. Human beings realize their fullest potential – much like the blooming of flowers – when certain conditions are met. One of these is a strong sense of self\, an awareness and acceptance of who we are\, where we are from. We have a better understanding of the broader human condition when we have a strong sense of self. This leads to acceptance of others and an appreciation of our differences. \nCultural awareness begins with an understanding of our place in the world\, how we are influenced by the cultural groups we belong to. Culture influences how we think and how we act. If we look at our cultural identity as we would an iceberg – 10% of it is visible\, 90% is under the waterline – which parts of us are visible above ‘the waterline’ and which parts below? To understand our own cultural identity\, we need to look below the surface. And we need to understand our own cultural identity before we can understand others’. \n \nTogether with the residents of St. Louis Center and the wider community of interested individuals\, educator and clay artist Eli Zemper will engage folks with and without disabilities to create ceramic flowers with metal stems. \nEach flower will have a center – called the ‘pistil’ – that will be stamped\, using stencils\, with words and images that describe the artist’s cultural identity. During this evening clay workshop held in the SLC gym\, Eli will engage all participants in discussions that help them explore their cultures. She will then lead them through the process of creating their unique ceramic flower. \nThanks to a generous grant from the Chelsea Community Foundation\, the residents of St. Louis Center have been on a year-long journey of cultural discovery. This event will be the capstone of the cultural awareness program. \nSt. Louis Center is pleased to invite you to the campus Wednesday\, March 19\, 2025 at 6:00pm to participate in this exclusive opportunity. \nPlease register on Eli Zemper’s website – Curiouser Clay – she will be providing all supplies necessary. \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Community ASL Training Course on September 19th!
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wanted to learn American Sign Language?\n\nYou’re invited!\nSt. Louis Center is excited to announce that we are offering two ASL beginners courses here on our campus on September 19th! The first session is from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM\, and the second is from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM. Both of the courses cover the same content so please feel free to come to whichever best suits your schedule! \nA brief history:\nHand gestures have been used as a communication tool for thousands of years\, dating back through human history. This universal way of communication has passed down stories of history\, religion\, and the human experience. In the 1700s and 1800s\, American Sign Language (ASL) was not yet recognized as a fully developed language\, but it played a crucial role in helping many deaf and verbally impaired individuals communicate with those around them. As it began to progress\, ASL evolved with the development of its own grammar and vocabulary and established itself in many deaf schools. \nFinally\, around the 1900s and 2000s\, America started to utilize this communication form on a national proportion\, recognizing ASL as a fully developed language. American Sign Language is now widely recognized and respected\, and many work to promote its use and accessibility in order to advocate for the rights of deaf and verbally impaired individuals. Today\, we have the great chance to learn a skill that can allow us to communicate with individuals who might feel neglected in the hustle and bustle of today’s society. Some of the residents here at St. Louis Center use ASL\, and we know they would greatly appreciate anyone who made an effort to talk to them utilizing their main form of communication. We all have the ability to take the steps necessary to make the world around us a more accessible place\, and this course is one of the many ways to accomplish that! \n \nThese courses are free so bring your friends and family to learn this valuable skill! \nWhen:\nSeptember 19th at\n8:30 AM – 10:00 AM\nOR\n2:00 PM – 3:30 PM \nWhere:\nSt. Louis Center Conference Room\nJust follow the signs or ask someone to point you in the right direction! \nWe are so excited to see you there!
