Maintenance Worker

A Maintenance Worker is responsible for the ongoing maintenance of the facilities and grounds of St. Louis Center.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs ongoing and preventive maintenance as prioritized on regular work assignments. Assignments may include, but not limited to temperature control systems, plumbing and water systems, electrical fixtures, vehicle maintenance, fire suppression systems, pest control, painting and minor construction projects.
  • Respond to daily work and repair requests in a timely manner.
  • Assemble, repair and relocate furniture for residents, staff and for special events.
  • Perform ongoing grounds maintenance, including, but not limited to, landscaping, lawn care and snow removal as needed.
  • Communicate with other staff, vendors and volunteers as required to coordinate maintenance activities.
  • Keep records of maintenance performed and required.
  • Perform related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license
  • Experience in maintaining power, heating and air conditioning in a commercial building is preferred
  • Education in HVAC systems
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems such as boilers, generators, and grounds maintenance equipment
  • Ability to safely operate vehicles, equipment, and use machinery and tools
  • Ability to assess and respond to emergency maintenance needs of a campus environment
  • Ability to maintain composure in a stressful environment
  • Ability to plan and prioritize work
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing

Part-Time Nurse (PLN)

A The Nurse will be responsible for providing health services for all residents, who have intellectual and developmental disabilities, of the St. Louis Center. Health care services to residents will meet their health needs within the philosophy and goals of the organization, and in accordance to the medical policies and procedures of the St. Louis Center

Responsibilities:

  • Foster the mission of St. Louis Center
  • Provides for the health needs of all residents, in coordination with the residential care staff, including but not limited to referrals to other health care providers, and emergency assessment care.
  • Maintains adequate records and documentation of the residents’ medical records including all medications, treatments, problems, progress and overall functioning.
  • Is an active member of the administrative team and participates in planning and providing in-service programs for staff, such as infection control and blood-borne pathogens.
  • Communicates with the residents’ family or guardians, assisting them when needed in obtaining and understanding the care of their health.
  • Provides health care information concerning the residents to health care professionals and the direct care workers. Interprets and applies standards for health care which meets licensing requirements.
  • Administers the medication regimes required by residents, working with health care providers to provide accurate medication dosing, residents’ tolerance, changes and documentation.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a current Michigan license in practical nursing or registered nurse and 5-7 years of nursing practice, preferably in a residential setting. Requires maintaining professional knowledge through continuing education.
  • Valid driver's license and driving record
  • CPR and First Aid certification (will be provided by St. Louis Center)
  • Knowledge of documentation and maintenance of medical records
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge about medical training issues within a residential facility

Direct Care Worker

A Direct Care Worker is responsible for the health and safety of our residents, and will be caring for aging adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Pay is $11/hour.

Responsibilities:

  • Foster the mission of St. Louis Center.
  • Work in any residence as assigned.
  • Monitor client activity, ensure security while providing routine time checks that are essential to daily tasks.
  • Complete all required residential program documentation at the end of each shift and perform related duties as assigned or as situations dictate.
  • Develop and implement residents' community involvement.
  • Perform related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license
  • CPR and First Aid certification (will be provided by St. Louis Center)
  • Knowledgeable in general fire safety and crisis prevention intervention
  • Ability to maintain composure in a stressful environment
  • Ability to plan and prioritize work
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to operate a 12-passenger vehicle
